Dr. María José Granados-Muñoz, September 2019-October 2019
Dr. Granados-Muñoz from the University of Granada (Spain) visited HUBC
from September 23 to October 22, 2019. Dr. Granados Muñoz is currently the leading researcher of the project CONDENSATION (aerosol-ClOud iNteractions anD Effects oN atmoSpheric rAdiaTIve fOrciNg), funded by a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship. Within the framework of this project, she will perform a theoretical evaluation through numerical models for optimizing lidar-radar configurations in order to improve current knowledge on aerosol-cloud interaction processes. The effect of changes in atmospheric aerosol properties on clouds formation, distribution and radiative properties is the most uncertain component of the earth's atmosphere energy balance. This uncertainty affects climate model estimates, key for the development of strategic plans for climate change mitigation and for policymakers worldwide. Thus, there is an essential need for understanding these processes and reducing their associated uncertainties in radiative forcing. Ground-based remote sensors such as lidar and radar are crucial in this sense, providing profiles of aerosol and cloud properties. During her stay at HUBC she worked with the numerical model for the simulation of lidar systems developed by Dr. David Whiteman. |
